The Homosexuals

Sat 22 February 2014

The Homosexuals began as The Rejects in 1977, playing shows with Wire, The Damned and The Jam but changed their name in order to distance themselves from the growing conformity of punk. The Homosexuals developed a sound made of angular guitar lines, complex melodies with experimental leanings that later went on to define what became known as ‘post-punk’. They played shows and parties in the squats where they lived instead of the venues in town. The band’s work during this period would lead to their recognition as a pioneer of D.I.Y. along with such bands as This Heat, Desperate Bicycles and Swell Maps.

Gain a unique insight into the troubled life of the eternal, immortal punk in Elisabeth Rasmussen’s new documentary, The Heart of Bruno Wizard, screening at GFT as part of Glasgow Film Festival on Sun 23 February.
