Saturday 22
THE BISMARCK (Seattle) / EX-WIVES / BITE / THE PHAR’I-SEES
13th Note
Saturday 22nd March, 2014
The Bismarck – North Dakota’s shame is Seattle’s gain. Ragged bunch of fugitives driven mad by the endless highways of Northwestern America returns to this tartan landscape after 18 months lost with 12” sheets of pallid vinyl smeared with the name of Wild Prairie Rose and on and on they travel south and beyond leaving hearts burst red with desire and truelove by the sides of roads, in gutters and crispbags staring up from the lurid glow of motorway services somewhere. Man. / Ex Wives are Three. Aluminium beard rock. The biggest dicks in town. ‘Hoors’ release night – bring your cassette players, bicentennial moment and all that. Badges and kisses for all. / Bite. (members of The Just Joans, Astral Planes and The Belle Hops, and formerly Powder Blue) thin white dukes that live in dusty libraries (and sound like The Sweet getting facedragged up and down the Autobahn by Can. Mann. / The Phar’I-Sees, the soundtrack to a moonlight drive-in Bela Lugosi double bill hosted by Roky Erikson, the snarl of Benjamin and the thunder of M.R. Cavanagh and BF Bessie grating Elvis and the Cramps through countless years of smoking valves. A man that asked himself too many questions once wrote the following: “Is that a Fender twin Reverb I hear? Is it getting a royal pounding? Yes it is, as The Pharisees are on stage blasting out no nonsense missiles built back in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll. Like the man said, it’s only rock ‘n’ roll but I like it, like it. Yes I do.” And somebody else said this: “the phar’i-sees…. crank out that fifties sixties seventies garage punk rockandrollabilly shit i love so much.” £8pm £dollar
