A languid tripartite story of loss, loneliness and love. A desperate cry cuts through an idyllic beach landscape as two bodies flail below the ocean waves. Lifeguard Donato is quick to act, but only manages to save one man, German tourist Konrad. The two become lovers and we watch as they suffer cultural displacement in pursuit of their relationship. Director Karim Aïnouz pays tribute to classic German New Wave films such as Fassbinder’s Fear Eats the Soul and Wenders’ Alice in the Cities.
