We are looking for friendly and reliable Home Stay Hosts to welcome our International students into their home. In return for providing them with bed, breakfast and an evening meal we offer rates from £100.00 pw. Staying with host families gives international students an excellent opportunity to learn about British lifestyle and both the student and host family can benefit from the cultural exchange. It also helps students to use English outside of the classroom and it is therefore important that English is the main language of communication in the home. You don't have to be a traditional family to host with our students as long as you have a genuine interest in welcoming an international student into your home, have an extra bedroom and can meet our quality standards, that's all you need! Our students will be studying in the city centre and generally prefer living nearby, so we would be most interested in hearing from people who live in the city centre or nearby. I will be moving from Bielefeld in Germany to Glasgow at the end of August to work at the University of Glasgow (my first position after my PhD) - I am a female Biologist - interested in behavioural ecology or animal behaviour. > Before my PhD student time I have been to teaching school and taught Biology and French to pupils between 14 and 19 years of age - teaching was fun for a while , but actually I had always wanted to do research and so I went back to university and finally that has led me to go to Glasgow. > How I liked to live? I would like to live in a nice sunny flat, in a nice area - if possible with a bit of green around. I like to be able to cycle to work - so it should be no further than 6km or 4 Miles from Hillhead. > four years ago, when I moved to Bielefeld where I live at the moment - I felt that I was grown up and after having lived in flat shares for about 5 years I felt I wanted to have my own flat and live by my own - then I asked another PhD student from my department to move in with me - we had met for cooking together at least two or three times a months anyway. (So, I like cooking - I am vegetarian i.e. I simply do not eat meat- but I am OK with everyone else around me eating meat if they like to.) and I rediscovered the good sides about flat sharing. I enjoy company, having a glass of wine and long discussions over everything and nothing at the kitchen table, but I also enjoy just some quite time by my own, reading and working (if I get caught up in my work I can work very late and even through the night...that is the most creative time for me). I do not have a TV - though, I like to get a nice video from time to time and watch on my Laptop screen, and I admit that I can spend some time on the internet looking something up or communicating with friends. I like pets (I have three wonderful tame and trained house rabbits at home and a sibirian dwarf hamster in my office - but bringing them over would be far to stressful for them, so they have to stay with my parents:-(. As I have allways lived with pets I would like to adopt one if possible because I think there must be something alive around me. > Plants are a must. At the moment I have a balcony and everything is in full flower and I like to harvest herbs for cooking there.
