Salsa hit the West End with a bang last night - the beat was hot and the crowd were moving. Zuba the Glasgow based Salsa band wasted no time in getting the audience warmed up and Venezuelan Salsa stars Carlos Pena ey Sus Muchachos were simply superb - Carlos was an irresistible and hugely talented force - wonderful voice, and charismatic appeal - refusing to acknowledge that Glasgow is not a Spanish speaking City - language proved not to be a barrier.
The band were groovin', funky and extremely talented - the trumpet players made particular impact - their synchronised backing vocals and stacatto horn rythms were excellent! The Muchachos were brilliant and the front man exceptional.
West End folk will no longer think that Salsa is the restaurant on Great Western Road and were dancing the hot latin numbers with the best of them. There were a number of expert and erotic tangoes performed before my very eyes and a lot of very willing learners were getting into the Salsa groove.
Cottiers was a great choice for the venue - despite the pouring rain it was filled to capacity and if livelieness was the criteria for success the first night of the West End Festival was a winner. And when will Carlos ey Sus Muchachos be back?
