Eating Out in Glasgow West End: French Restaurants
Cul de sac, 44 Ashton Lane G12 8SJ (334 4749). This creperie has been popular with students and locals for many years. Pasta, crepes and pizzas are the mainstay with some more upmarket choices available. You will enjoy a meal in the relaxed atmosphere and attractive surroundings. I love their fresh flower arrangements and half price options between 5.00 - 7.00 p.m. (££). Sunday brunch is substantial and very popular.
La Patisserie Francoise, 138 Byres Road. This restaurant has expanded from its original tiny proportions responding to the demand for an impressive array of tempting pastries and gateaux. A pleasant spot for lunch or coffee. (£) You can also buy patisserie cakes to take away. Julie Gorevan chose the very best selection for her birthday tea in January, 2000 - it was a great party with the table set to perfection.
September, 2006. Still the great cakes and beautifully refurbished. The soup is the best - especially the vegetable, just delicious. Lovely staff including Zana from Monte Negro.
Mitchell's West End, 35 Ashton Lane - 0141 339 2220
A popular little restaurant in the heart of the West End. Good atmosphere, great food and good deals. The menu changes frequently so you can keep coming back. Only open evenings. (££)
La Bavarde 19 New Kirk Road, Bearsden. - 0141 942 2202
Very far out west in Bearsden, La Bavarde has is a popular well established restaurant with a faithful following. Lovely fish dishes and main courses with succulent sauces. Very friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere. Closed Sundays and Mondays. Lunch 12 - 1.30 p.m. evenings 6.30 - 9.30 p.m. (££)
