The QnECMS (Quick and Easy Content Management System) was developed to manage the Glasgow West End website - now you to can manage your site as easily. Comparable content management systems with these features cost ten times as more (probably more) - and they are not as easy to use.
Content Management Features
- Built using standard markup to ensure that it will work on all browsers.
- Weblog (or news page if you prefer to call it that) with comments, archiving, and permanent link to each entry.
- A system for adding comments to the bottom of any page. Those adding comments can choose to hide or provide access to their email address. Email addresses are hidden, to prevent easy pickings for spammers.
- General Content Management for adding and deleting pages.
- When editing pages or weblog entries changes can be made public straight away or held back until the appropriate time. Currently this is a manual process - just uncheck the 'publish now' button in the form.
- 'Edit This Page' links on all pages for members - popularized by Manila, but my own implementation predates Manila.
- Image upload, resizing, and creation of thumbnails linked to larger images.
- File upload facility: upload common file types to your website, e.g. MS Word, PDF files.
- A list of all the pages on the site, sorted by date or alphabetically.
- Categories: each page is added to a category
- Navigation bars: each page can be assigned its own navigation bar.
- Automatically created index pages; pages are assigned to categories, index pages show all pages in a particular category.
- Automatically created 'breadcrumbs' navigation.
- Generation of RSS feed from weblog (there will be future changes in how this is generated)
- Uses Magpie to aggregate RSS feeds from other sites.
- Simple membership system - simple at the moment, but may get more sophisticated in the future.
- Mailing list for sending a message to all members, or sending current news as HTML to members.
- Accessible HTML - compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.
