What is Age? by Susan Muir: Love is in the air – Poetry and Stories of Love by Glasgow Writers

What is Age?

(Susan Muir)

To be young and carefree is such sweet joy

Life will go on forever or so it seems

It is often the time for girl meets boy

The fulfilling of many of our dreams

Career is now the most important thing

To climb the ladder and be seen to achieve

A spouse, a house, a need for everything

I am happy now or so you believe

Before you know it youth has passed you by

Those lines and shadows once from late nights now

stay always. Why already? I hear you cry

I will not accept I am old, you vow

Age is an opportunity to go

against convention and do something new

The world is your playground do you not know

be bold but enjoy the familiar too

To be young can be fun yet has stresses

but maturity is joy and sweet caresses
